Preparing a move to Israel: a family budget

If you’re moving to Israel, you’ve probably already checked out Nefesh B’Nefesh’s website and services.  There is a ton of information inside which has been presented in a format the organization calls Aliyahpedia.  I recommend checking out a sample family budget (2 parents + 4 kids) on the site here.

While everyone’s budget will look different, NBN believes that an average first year monthly budget should run:

$2,935-$6,325

Just a couple of thoughts:

  • Budget looks pretty accurate (costs will go up as oleh benefits expire)
  • rules are always in flux, so you’ve got to check to get updated info
  • dollar/shekel conversion also has been volatile which may affect budgets both positively and negatively
  • apartment/house rents have recently been surging while prices to buy have softened somewhat in certain communities — do your homework and don’t let an agent convince you of anything until you’ve tested the markets

Apple Store opening in Israel

All you Apple fans in Israel can now enjoy your cake and eat it too.  Globes reports that iDigital, Apple’s local Israel representative, isapple store 5th avenue opening Israel’s first Apple Store.

From the Globes article, “More Apple operating systems have been sold in the five months since September 2007 than in the past five years combined.”

Nice.

Yeda used to have the Israeli license before it was purchased by iDigital last year.  Numerous complaints were filed as consumers wanted more service, sales and marketing support.

No word yet where the story will be located.
